Providing a great strength to weight ratio, birch plywood is perfectly suited to a wide range of applications and structural uses. This versatile material is available in a range of grades which are defined by the face veneer, the highest providing a virtually blemish-free surface that’s perfect for staining and lacquering. Birch is a pale or yellow-coloured wood that is very dense, providing excellent strength. The delicate colour and a consistent finish make it well suited to the manufacturing of furniture, but it can also be used for various other applications. Plywood sheets are incredibly versatile and can be used for everything from engineered structures and decorative furniture to general construction and flooring. The bigger sellers we currently offer 12mm birch plywood and 18mm birch plywood, cut to size or shape.
Our Birch Plywood Grading
Birch plywood is available in a variety of grades and we offer the grades listed below. For more information about the types available, please see our plywood grading guide.
The birch plywood that we offer comes in high B/BB grade which provides a clear and smooth surface and is best-suited to applications where the appearance of the wood is important or for printing onto. Please note that bb/bb grade can have plugs on either side of the sheet, if you are clear finishing and require a plug free finish then please ask us about higher grades.
Advantages of Birch Plywood Cut to Size
The aesthetic quality is one of the main benefits of using birch plywood – it has a lovely rich sheen and gives the end product an elegant finish. It can be left untreated if being used indoors or looks just as beautiful when stained. Another advantage of plywood is its durability. The process used to form birch plywood reinforces the strength of the original wood, as it’s formed by layering up to three or more layers of birch for greater stability and strength. Birch plywood is also a safe material to use as it’s free from knots and jagged edges, providing a smooth surface that’s not prone to splintering or cracking. This makes it an ideal material for cabinets and furniture, as well as toys and child-friendly applications.
Birch plywood sheets are an affordable material that doesn’t impact the budget too much, giving it an additional edge over other plywood materials. Because it’s more cost-effective, it’s a popular choice to be used in conjunction with more expensive hardwoods to keep costs down. Finally, birch has an environmental advantage over other woods. It’s an abundant and fast-growing species that is a renewable source, so it doesn’t cause destruction or disruption to the environment when the birch is felled. For companies who want to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum, opting for birch plywood is a great way to ensure that there is less of an impact.
Applications of Birch Plywood Cut to Size
Birch plywood is commonly used for joinery or making components. It can be used for both interior applications as well as exterior uses, although when used externally the panels should be treated with an appropriate treatment or sealant to protect the wood from moisture. Plywood is a great option for weight-saving applications as it has a great strength-to-weight ratio, but it also a brilliant choice for applications such as pipe boxing, cupboards or hatches. Birch plywood is also well-suited to flooring and underlay, delivering strength to the floors. It’s a commonly used material in bus, van or train flooring. Once treated, plywood can also be used for walls, roof decking and linings, and even for concrete construction frameworks. The strength and versatility of plywood also makes it well-suited to signage, for interior signs in places such as restaurants or retail spaces as well as exterior signs outside business premises. We also offer marine plywood, hardwood plywood and softwood plywood.

We cut to a tolerance of +/-3mm.
What is your delivery timescale?
3-7 working days.
Is mirrored acrylic like normal mirror?
Mirrored acrylic is a flexible material, and needs to be attached to a perfectly flat surface. We recommend attaching it to MDF or something similar, making sure the adhesive is spread in a thin even layer across the acrylic. we also recommend using the 5mm thick acrylic as it is more rigid.
Can you cut any shape?
Yes, in acrylic. We will shortly be able to also cut any shape in polycarbonate as well.
What's your standard radius corner?
20mm, but we can cut to your requirements.
How many holes do I need in my acrylic?
1 per corner should be sufficient for smaller pieces. You might want to consider an extra hole in the middle if your sheet is larger.
Can I cut acrylic?
Yes, you can. Just take it slow and easy.
Can I put acrylic behind a hob?
Not if it is gas or electric. You need a gap of 5cm between an induction hob and the acrylic.
Do you fit the acrylic?
No, we don't. We do provide some templates which should help you to take your measurements. The acrylic is easy to install by any competent DIYer.
