How to Measure Kitchen Cabinet Hinge Holes

This guide is based on hinges with standard 35mm screw holes. Please contact us if you need more information on hinges or have any special requirements that you cannot see on our website and we will be happy to assist you.

To measure for the hinge holes in your new kitchen cabinet doors, you will need a measuring tape, ruler, pencil, marker, and a screwdriver. It will be easier to measure if you remove the kitchen door first.

For a cupboard that opens from the left or the right:

We refer to these orientations as a “Left-Hand Door” which refers to when you swing the door to the left when you open it or a “Right-Hand Door” which refers to when you swing the door to the right when you open it.

There will usually be one hinge at the top and one hinge at the bottom.

For cupboards that open upwards:

We refer to this as a "Top-Hung Door" as the hinge holes are at the top of the panel.

These are usually on the left and right sides.

Step 1) Using a screwdriver, carefully unscrew and remove the existing door from its hinges

Most cupboard doors tend to have two hinges. If you have more than two hinges, we have the option on our website to add five hinge holes to your cut-to-size sheet.

Step 2) Measure from the edge of the door to the centre of the hinge hole

Make sure to note down your measurements ready to input on our website for when you are ordering your new cabinet doors. It is important to measure each door's hinge holes as sometimes the measurements can vary from one another.

There is no need for concern regarding the measurements from the side edge of the doors, as this measurement is consistently standardized at 22.5mm to the center of the hole.

For a top hinge hole:

Measure from the top of the door to the centre of the current hinge hole in your old door.

For a bottom hinge hole:

Measure from the bottom of the door to the centre of the hinge hole in your old door.

For a left hinge hole:

Measure from the left edge of the door to the centre of the hinge hole in your old door.

For a right hinge hole:

Measure from the right edge of the door to the centre of the hinge hole.

Step 3) Ordering: Input your measurements into our website

When ordering hinge holes, it's important to take into account that the visualiser on our furniture board pages shows the inside of the cabinet door, so it may seem to you that the image is reversed.

Your measurements must be positioned at least 70mm from the edge of the sheet and 70mm apart from each other.
