Softwood ply is often known as shuttering ply, its a rough grade of sheet that is suitable for form work, shuttering and rough carpentry work for example shelves in a garage or a shed to store paint or tools on. You can expect to see knots, dents and filler on the surface, the sheets are quite likely to be warped/wavy. It is not suitable for use in finished joinery like making book cases, desks or any item where the finish is needed to be smooth and presentable, for this we recommend birch ply.
We offer a variety of plywood, both different types and thicknesses, for your chosen application which we can cut to any size or shape on our CNC router for greater accuracy and duplication. Whatever shape you have in mind, we can cut it – just send us your drawings, in either CAD format or a sketch, and we can cut it to your exact specifications. In addition to cutting any shape or curve, our CNC router can be used for rebating, pocketing and hole cutting on plywood sheets, in addition to virtually any other sheet material. We also provide laser cutting, CNC engraving and miter cutting services.
Using state-of-the-art UV printers, we can print full sheets of plywood in one go, providing a consistent finish at a much faster rate than painting. We currently only list 8x4 sheets (2440x1220mm) but we’re able to purchase and cut sheets of up to 2000x3000mm, so get in touch with our team today to discuss your requirements. With optional next day delivery, your products can be with you quickly to help you meet tight deadlines. For larger orders, we have our own transport service which operates throughout most of the UK. Softwood plywood sheets are typically made from woods such as cedar, spruce, pine and fir, which is collectively known as spruce-pine-fir or SPF. It’s a material is most commonly used for general building, roofing and concrete frameworks, or any application where the technical specification of the product is more important than the appearance of the wood. But plywood of a higher grade can also be painted or treated with a preservative to be used in applications where the wood will be visible. We provide custom cutting services that allow you to purchase softwood plywood to any size or shape to suit your needs. Our fast turnaround and quick delivery mean you can get started as soon as possible.
Softwood Plywood Grades
Wood comes in a variety of grades; we offer the grades listed below for softwood plywood. See our plywood grading guide for more information on the types available.
Softwood plywood is the most popular manufactured plywood and is available in various thicknesses. It is commonly used in construction projects as it’s cost-effective and can be used for different projects. There are several grades of this wood to choose between, from C+/C grade which has knots on both sides of the wood, with those on the facing C+ side filled and touch sanded.
Advantages of Softwood Plywood Cut to size
Softwood plywood has a number of benefits, which include a clear face with minimal defects or imperfections and a great visual appearance in higher-grade sheets. It’s a compression-resistant wood that is also traction-resistant and provides incredible stability and strength. Another advantage of using softwood ply is its easy machinability that means it can be used with standard woodworking tools and power tools for convenience, including hand saws. Softwood plywood can be cut to any size or shape, so it’s great for decorative applications, and it is available in a wide variety of thicknesses to suit various projects and requirements. It can also be used for both interior and exterior applications, making it a popular material to use in construction projects as it simplifies the process and minimises the need for multiple types of wood. We also offer marine plywood, hardwood plywood and birch plywood.
Applications of Softwood Plywood Cut to Size
This variety of plywood is typically used for furniture manufacturing, pre-fabricated components and for construction purposes, as well as serving as the base for laminating. It’s largely used in the construction industry as it is affordable and hardwearing. There are various grades and thicknesses of softwood ply to choose from, depending on the environment and chosen application. For applications which are more decorative, a higher grade of ply can be used for a more professional and high-quality finish.

Is mirrored acrylic like normal mirror?

What's your standard radius corner?
20mm, but we can cut to your requirements.

Can I put acrylic behind a hob?
Not if it is gas or electric. You need a gap of 5cm between an induction hob and the acrylic.
