What’s the difference between budget and premium acrylic pink splashbacks?

What we have called a budget splashback is in fact world class quality coloured acrylic, often called Perspex or Plexiglass. This acrylic is a solid colour right the way through and is a very cost effective high quality solution. The only slight drawback is that there is a limited range of colours available which may not suit your design.

This brings us nicely to our premium range of splashbacks. These are made from clear 5mm acrylic with the colour printed to the back using the latest uv printing technology. This allows us to create almost any color imaginable using CMYK colour mixing. The main difference in the finished product is that with our premium acrylic splashback you see through the clear to the colour, which is why you will sometimes hear them being described as glass look.

Both products create stunning results in the kitchen, bathroom or throughout the home so for me the only choice is the colour.

We recommend ordering a sample to check the colour in the final location as screens can display colours differently. If you can't find the correct colour or are trying to match a specific paint, RAL or Pantone colour get in touch and we can create a custom sample for you.

Looking for a picture or a pattern?

If you want to have you favourite family photos blown up and use for you splashback we can help you with that, alternatively you can choose from millions of stock images available on the many stock sites which can also be printed on your splashback. If you want to make a custom pattern to match your decor speak to our design team as anything is possible.

Vibrant, colourful and attention-grabbing, pink splashbacks are great for adding a bold element to your décor to update your kitchen or bathroom. The beauty of acrylic is that style doesn’t come at the expense of practicality, so you will still gain all of the great qualities that acrylic is known for while benefiting from the contemporary and stylish colour. At Cut My Plastic, we provide bespoke cutting services to ensure that your splashback is the ideal fit, regardless of the shape you require.

How effective is pink acrylic as a splashback material?

Acrylic is a widely used material for splashbacks due to the many inherent properties that this versatile plastic possesses. Acrylic is a highly durable material that can easily withstand knocks and wear, so it’s ideal for busy homes or businesses where impact is likely. The durability of acrylic means it won’t shatter or show signs of damage like other materials are prone to, and if it does break it is shatterproof making it a much safer option.

Because it is so lightweight, acrylic splashbacks are easy to install and can be cut and drilled with ease using basic household tools. Once they’ve been securely installed, you can rest assured that your splashback will last for decades without the bright pink colour fading or becoming tarnished by sun exposure. Acrylic isn’t susceptible to dust or grease but can be cleaned easily with just water and a soft cloth if any cooking spills find their way onto the surface. The food-safe properties of acrylic mean you don’t have to worry about using it in the kitchen either.

To prevent your splashback from warping, we recommend keeping the material at least 200mm away from direct heat from gas hobs. If you have a gas hob, we advise using a glass splashback for this section of your kitchen and using acrylic elsewhere.

FAQs

What tolerance do you cut to?

We cut to a tolerance of +/-3mm.

What is your delivery timescale?

3-7 working days.

Is mirrored acrylic like normal mirror?

Mirrored acrylic is a flexible material, and needs to be attached to a perfectly flat surface. We recommend attaching it to MDF or something similar, making sure the adhesive is spread in a thin even layer across the acrylic. we also recommend using the 5mm thick acrylic as it is more rigid.

Can you cut any shape?

Yes, in acrylic. We will shortly be able to also cut any shape in polycarbonate as well.

What's your standard radius corner?

20mm, but we can cut to your requirements.

How many holes do I need in my acrylic?

1 per corner should be sufficient for smaller pieces. You might want to consider an extra hole in the middle if your sheet is larger.

Can I cut acrylic?

Yes, you can. Just take it slow and easy.

Can I put acrylic behind a hob?

Not if it is gas or electric. You need a gap of 5cm between an induction hob and the acrylic.

Do you fit the acrylic?

No, we don't. We do provide some templates which should help you to take your measurements. The acrylic is easy to install by any competent DIYer.

What's the difference between acrylic and Perspex?

Perspex is a brand name. It is the same as acrylic.

What's the difference between acrylic and polycarbonate?
