What are the benefits of using clear acrylic sheets?
Acrylic sheeting is UV and weather-resistant, as well as being resistant to prolonged exposure to sunlight, so it’s great for outdoor use. Clear acrylic sheets are also resistant to chemicals and have a low moisture absorption rate, so they’re useful for a host of different environments. Acrylic is incredibly durable, so it’s often used as a secondary glazing alternative to glass, as it is resistant to impact and is shatterproof, making it a safer option. It’s particularly useful for sheds and around the home where children and pets play.
Acrylic is easy to fabricate and can be cut, drilled and shaped to any requirements, so it’s a flexible material to work with. The cut surfaces can be polished and sanded easily for a more professional finish to your sheeting. It’s up to 10 times stronger than glass and doesn’t age, so you can expect at least 20 years of use from your acrylic sheeting without it showing any signs of deterioration – a great return on investment. Acrylic also provides up to 92% light transmission, higher than most types of glass, so it’s a preferable option to glass for use in windows or roofing.
Plastics have a uniform thickness and smooth finish that makes them easier to keep clean with just warm soapy water and a soft cloth. This makes them a great option in places like bathrooms or kitchens where you want to ensure the surface is hygienic, but it also means they can be used to great effect in commercial cooking spaces or even in medical settings.
Where can clear acrylic sheets be used?
At Cut My Plastic, we offer cut-to-size acrylic sheeting that’s advantageous in a range of settings in and around the home, as well as for commercial spaces. The durability and hardwearing nature of acrylic means it’s particularly useful for high footfall areas or for outdoor use. Clear sheets offer great visibility and clarity, so they’re ideal for window replacements in sheds, garages and greenhouses, as well as secondary glazing for thermal insulation and extra security.
It can also be used for door glazing, skylights and roofing, as well as animal enclosures. The clarity and visibility mean businesses can use it as a protective surface for advertising media and marketing materials. Acrylic makes a great framing alternative to glass, both for safety and durability. Additionally, if you need a way of protecting the walls in your home or business premises, clear acrylic sheets can be used to keep the colour or pattern visible beneath while still providing a protective surface.

Is mirrored acrylic like normal mirror?
Mirrored acrylic is a flexible material, and needs to be attached to a perfectly flat surface. We recommend attaching it to MDF or something similar, making sure the adhesive is spread in a thin even layer across the acrylic. we also recommend using the 5mm thick acrylic as it is more rigid.
Can you cut any shape?
Yes, in acrylic. We will shortly be able to also cut any shape in polycarbonate as well.
What's your standard radius corner?
20mm, but we can cut to your requirements.
How many holes do I need in my acrylic?
1 per corner should be sufficient for smaller pieces. You might want to consider an extra hole in the middle if your sheet is larger.
Can I cut acrylic?
Yes, you can. Just take it slow and easy.
Can I put acrylic behind a hob?
Not if it is gas or electric. You need a gap of 5cm between an induction hob and the acrylic.
Do you fit the acrylic?
No, we don't. We do provide some templates which should help you to take your measurements. The acrylic is easy to install by any competent DIYer.
