2mm Acrylic Sheets – One of our best-loved products

Sturdy, attractive acrylic is a marvellous material, as versatile and good looking as it is practical. The clear version is widely used as an alternative to glass, because it's lighter and safer as well as cheaper. Construction companies and interior decorators are some of our best customers, since acrylic bathroom splashbacks are bang on-trend right now, as are colourful acrylic splashbacks for kitchens. Whether it's a craft project or building job, repairs or renovations, our 2mm acrylic sheet is one of the best-loved plastic sheeting products.

Product Description

Our tough, flexible 2mm extruded acrylic sheets make lots of cool projects easy to achieve, everything from uniquely gorgeous home décor to exciting decorative and practical projects designed with business premises and public areas in mind. Does our hi-gloss 2mm acrylic sheeting fit the bill?

Key Features

– Cheaper, lighter and safer than glass
– Absorbs UV rays for comfort and safety
– Doesn't scratch and offers a fabulous high gloss finish
– Easy to cut and work with
– Vivid colour applied to one side for a rich, deep 3D look, permanently bonded at extrusion stage
– Very strong, a real challenge to damage
– Fire Rating of E to Test Standard DIN ED 13501

Important note: Never fit acrylic sheet near to a gas or electric cooker, hob, open fire, radiator, wood burner, Rayburn, Aga or any other source of heat. If it's going to get hotter than 160°C the heat will damage the acrylic. As an alternative, you can explore our fantastic range of glass.

Which of the plastics we sell perform safely near a heat source?

– Electric, Ceramic & Induction Hobs - Acrylic wall panels are OK behind induction and ceramic hobs as long as it's at least 50mm from the appliance.
– Gas Hobs - Our Low Iron toughened glass is perfect for splashbacks behind direct heat source hobs.

Applications

You can use 2mm acrylic in all sorts of ways, including:

– Stunning contemporary splashbacks for bathrooms and kitchens
– As business and boardroom presentation boards

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Perspex and acrylic?

Perspex is a brand name. It is the same as acrylic.

How can I clean acrylic?

Keeping your acrylic clean and hygienic is easier to maintain, as all that is required is warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth

How can I remove scratches from acrylic?

You can easily remove scratches out of mirrors with a microfibre cloth and a high-quality polish. Following the instructions on the polish, the scratches will be removed using small circular motions.

How can I cut acrylic sheets?

While it is possible to cut acrylic sheets yourself, we do suggest that you request it cut-to-size before ordering as we can meet your measurements.

Can I put acrylic behind a hob?

Not if it is gas or electric. You need a gap of 50mm between an induction hob and the acrylic.

What's the difference between acrylic and polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate is a stronger alternative to acrylic. Take a look at our handy guide here.

Is acrylic food safe?

Dishes and glassware made from Perspex sheets have been designed to hold up against the heat of a commercially manufactured dishwasher. As such they are food safe and are BPA-Free

Is acrylic heat resistant?

Perspex sheets melt at high temperatures or from exposure to direct flames. The melting point for acrylic plastic is 160 degrees Celcius, so they cannot withstand extreme temperatures.

Is acrylic suitable for secondary glazing?

Clear acrylic or polycarbonate would be best for secondary glazing. Windows larger than 800mm will benefit from being glazed with a thicker sheet to provide rigidity.

Is acrylic recyclable?

Acrylic is recyclable, however, as it’s not bio-degradable the process is not as easy as putting it in your recycle bin or taking it to a bottle bank. But you can re-use acrylic (e.g. Perspex), by cutting larger sheets into small pieces and forming them into other products.

Is Cut My Plastic able to fabricate my product?

We are able to provide in-house fabrication services. Please see the full list of all our available options and contact us to enquire about your product.
